Roong Aroon International School is committed to delivering a comprehensive holistic education that adheres to the standards established by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). The School’s objective is to instill an international perspective, known as “International Mindedness”, in its students, creating a community of learners who value education. This approach fosters personal development, promotes social harmony, and contributes to globally peaceful progress.

Roong Aroon School aims to provide an education that holistically integrates the learning process into the lives of the learners, enabling them to link knowledge and understanding with valuable life experiences and relationships.  Our students will develop life-long learning skills to develop their full potential through creativity, independence, spontaneity, and a grasp of the real world, in order to help create a future that is compassionate, fair, and sustainable.

In reviewing different international programs and curricula, the International Baccalaureate Organization’s Middle Years Programme, and Career-Related Programme stand out to us for its many similar goals and practices, such as holistic learning, inquiry-based learning, and development of attributes and skills. These similarities and overlaps are highlighted throughout this curriculum. Additionally, both the Roong Aroon International School and Roong Aroon School philosophies are in alignment with the IBO Mission Statement:

“The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect … These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.”

In June, Roong Aroon School was established in Bang Khun Thien district of Bangkok, Thailand. The school was founded by a group of the country’s top scholars led by Associate Professor Prapapat Niyom with the aim of building a learning institute that will lead Thai education in a new direction. The school is situated on a lush green campus spanning over 50 rai (20 acres) of land. Its learning process integrates holistically into the life of the learners, enabling them to indivisibly link the knowledge and understanding of the content learned with valuable life relationships.

2022

In January, we were authorized by the International Baccalaureate Association to provide their Middle Years Programme (Grade 6 to Grade 10). Within the IB-MYP framework, we use the Australian National Curriculum.

2022

In August, we were authorized by the International Baccalaureate (IB) to provide the Career-related Programme (Grade 11 and Grade 12). This two-year program provides a challenging academic foundation for students to develop and pursue a university degree and career through IB-DP courses and university undergraduate courses developed for the IB-CP by select institutions locally and internationally.

2023

In July, we became an IB Diploma Programme candidate school.

RAIS IB Program Overview

As an IB World School that shares a common philosophy – a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that RAIS believes is important for our students. We use the frameworks of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (Grades 6-10), Career-related Programme and Diploma Programme (Grades 11-12). Our curriculum in grades 6-10 is based on the Australian National F-10 Curriculum. In grades 11 and 12, the CP and DP curriculum are derived from the IB Diploma Programme course syllabi and university undergraduate courses.

A main feature of Roong Aroon International School is holistic education. Holistic education has two important dimensions. First, it focuses on the growth of the whole person—body, mind, and soul. Holistic education differs from most other forms of pedagogy because it includes the spiritual dimension, which will be Buddhism in the case of Roong Aroon. Holistic education, then, engages the whole person. The second dimension is the focus on the interconnectedness between experience and the surrounding environment. Holistic education, then, includes a sense of the whole person connected to community, the earth, and the cosmos. Inclusion, balance, and connection are three basic principles in the Holistic Curriculum.

Teaching and learning in the MYP is concept- and context-based. Content is less proscribed, as students gain knowledge through exploration and research into the conceptual understanding of each unit, as framed by a real-world context. There are established objectives for each year level, as well as  learning expectations in terms of the skills, understanding and subject knowledge.

Additionally, as Roong Aroon International School practices project-based learning, and the IB requires interdisciplinary learning at the Middle Years level, it provides time for extended learning, in-depth project preparation as well as extra time for subjects integrated in the interdisciplinary unit (IDU) to carry out related activities.

Roong Aroon International School an authorised IB World School and authorised to provide the the Career-related Programme in July 2022.

In deciding how to best support our students after IB-MYP 5 (Grade 10), the school leadership reviewed both options offered by the IBO: the Diploma Programme (DP) and the Career-related Programme (CP). While both provide excellent academic development over grades 11 and 12, RAIS decided to opt for IB-CP as its structure and ethos matches the inquiry-based academic learning, project-based assessment and hands-on pedagogical style used at Roong Aroon School and Roong Aroon International School.

Additionally, the IB-CP engages students in rigorous DP courses while providing much needed life skills for success at university and beyond through its core components. As RAIS believes in providing students personal growth opportunities along with academic learning, the IB-CP was the best option to create a holistic upper secondary experience in preparation for university and life.
